Black Keys, Johnny Depp Collaboration Steals the Show at MTV Movie Awards
My Nguyen June 5, 2012
This year’s MTV Movie Awards, held this past Sunday (6/3) at the Gibson Ampitheatre, happened to be a standard affair with the usual heavyweights nabbing all the awards. Emma Watson from the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, won Best Hero and Best Cast, while The Hunger Games stars took Best Female Performance for Jennifer Lawrence and Best Male Performance for Josh Hutcherson. According to Rolling Stone magazine, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 redeemed themselves by winning the prestigious Best Movie award, presented by Jodie Foster, and the Best Kiss award once again.
Things became a little more memorable when Generation Award winner Johnny Depp rocked onstage alongside the Black Keys. He contributed on guitar during Gold on the Ceiling and Lonely Boy, and which later garnered praises from long-time musical buddy Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Joe Perry, who both applauded Depp for his “gutsiness as an artist,” and calling him a “rock star.”
It is also reported that other performances of that night were Fun and Janelle Monae’s collaboration on We Are Young, and Wiz Khalifa who performed his hit single, Work Hard, Play Hard.
The other big musical winner happened to be LMFAO, who walked away with The Best Song award for Party Rock Anthem for its appearance in 21 Jump Street.
