Cat Power Returns After 6 Years Absence with ‘Sun’Chan Marshall, best known for her sparse vocals in the power group, Cat Power, announced that the release of her first album in six years will be released in September, and will be titled, Sun. Accompanying the announcement is a sampler of what is to come. Cat Power’s label also revealed that the group’s first single will be, titled, Ruin.
Marshall told Contactmusic.com that Sun was an album that almost didn’t happen.
“I entered a long relationship which I really wanted to be successful. You know that thing we’re all raised to want: a beautiful life with children – that family thing that is tangible? I was trying to grow my personal life in a way that I never did before.”
The end of this relationship crippled Marshall’s creativity to the point where she couldn’t come up with ideas for new tracks.
The singer reveals that, “There’s a great loss personally in my life right now, but there’s also a gift in that I’m lucky I finished this album.”
On Sun, out on Matador Records September 4th, Marshall decided to play all the musical instruments herself to prove that she could depend on herself musically after not playing guitar or piano in nearly five years.
The following is a full track listing for Sun:
