Kanye West to Premiere Film at CannesKanye West seems to be the main headliner on all the music media outlets lately. The rapper, whose formerly titled track, Theraflu, clashed with the mission statement of the over-the-counter cold and flu remedy product with the same name earlier in the month, made some decisive moves following the premiere of the controversial song. According to Billboard.com, West’s label, Island Def Jam, issued a press release on Saturday, April 14, to announce that the track title will be changed to Way Too Cold and called the name change a “creative decision.”
The song lyrics are reportedly about E! Network star, Kim Kardashian, whom West is currently dating. Way Too Cold also mentions sports star, Kris Humphries, whom was briefly married to Kim and is undergoing a very public divorce battle with the Kardashian. The lyrics in turn diss Humphries and makes some very special shout outs to Jay-z, who owns a small percentage of the Brooklyn Nets, the team Humphries plays for. Wiz Khalifa is also briefly mentioned in Way Too Cold, to which the rapper is pleasantly surprised over and won’t rule out a possible collaboration with West in the near future.
But in more recent news, the Chicago native is reportedly undergoing an even more ambitious project than attempting to remedy a public that has gone a little tepid after his unceremonious behavior at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Since the Taylor Swift-debacle, West has managed to heat things up with his critically receptive 2010 release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and his equally lauded Jay-z collaboration in Watch the Throne.
Lately, word has been circulating that West is making his feature film debut at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
West is planning to write, direct, produce and score the 30-minute film, and has been spotted filming in the Middle East last week, reports The Session. Similar to the 30-minute music video that West did for 2010’s Runaway, the Cannes-project which had recently commenced shooting is described as a “thriller.” Kid Cudi, who had recently signed under West’s label, G.O.O.D., is reported to star in the film that West is planning to premiere at the coveted Cannes Film Festival, which will be running from May 16 to May 27.
