Pearl Jam Superfan Makes SetlistThere’s the fan and then there’s the super fan. According to Rolling Stone, Brian Farias, a Rhode Island native, knows about people who have seen Pearl Jam at least a ten more times than he has, but on June 27th, he got to do something that diehard fans of the band can only dream of: he received the opportunity to create the setlist for an entire Pearl Jam show.
Farias was flown to Amsterdam via Pearl Jam’s longtime fan group, Ten Club, to attend two shows and to meet the band. Farias told Rolling Stone that the set-building process was really stressful… “because it’s something you know is never gonna happen again. You’re only getting one shot at it.”
Farias estimates that 40 to 50 drafts were made before he decided on something.
He summed up the experience as surreal, and adds, “As more time goes on, it gets even more emotional. It’s better than winning the lottery. All the money in the world, I couldn’t bribe Eddie Vedder to let me make his setlist. It was like programming your iPod and then Pearl Jam show up in your yard and play it for you.”
