Organizers and attendees of this year’s North by Northeast in Toronto say that this festival is on its most successful run yet. On its 18th year, NXNE has seen phenomenal growth with more artists, film premieres, more daytime activities, and more festival-goers than ever before. Initially, a five-day festival that was modeled after Austin’s South by Southwest, NXNE has evolved into a 7-day festival with more than 310,000 fans witnessing performances by over 800 acts on over 50 stages.
This year’s concert series, June 11-17, 2012, has already amassed a combine total of 55,000 attendees for The Flaming Lips show on Saturday and for Raekwon and Ghostface Killah on Sunday.
During the day, NXNE presents over 40 films over the course of the seven days.
But, according to one PopMatter reporter, it is at night when the festival really shines.
NXNE is also releasing a compilation album, titled, “The Best of NXNE 2012” that will be featuring singles by over 40 top bands, who has performed at the festival, which is currently up for free download on Amazon.
